Two ways to style a sweater dress

Two ways to style a sweater dress

If you're anything like me, the minute it hits 60 or lower in California, ALL the sweaters come out. I have a large stockpile just waiting for cozy days. Today was one of those days. It rained a little bit in the morning, but then let up, making everything feel cool and crisp. I ran to my closet and grabbed this adorable sweater dress from Tobi to throw on! While I was in there though, I realized that half the sweaters I own are black. Designers are notorious for constantly dressing in all black or mostly black...and even then if we mix it up, we go gray or neutral! So, I not only wanted to show you several ways you could mix up you sweater dress game, but also how shoes and accessories play a huge role in making even two all black outfits feel different.

01 PAIR WITH TIGHTS AND EDGY BOOTIES

I've been giving my fall looks just a little bit of edge here and there, since I tend to wear a lot of dresses and bows and want to balance out the femininity. These studded boots have been so fun to pair with dark florals and other dresses! Here, I feel like they balance out the casual coziness of the sweater dress. The tights make sure my legs stay warm too. I kept my hair up in my go to weekend style, the loose bun, and threw on my favorite fall lipstick for a warm and simple look.

02 PAIR WITH OTK BOOTS AND ADD A SCARF FOR DETAIL

SWEATER DRESS C/O TOBI // BOOTS SOLD OUT, SIMILAR HERE // SCARF

For a slightly more elevated look, I swapped out the booties for over the knee boots (still keeping in our all black theme!) However, the embellishments on the booties provided some nice detail and helped complete the look, which the plain OTK boots were lacking. Whenever going monochrome I try to choose a final piece of jewelry or make sure something has a bit of texture to help the overall look not be too plain. This silk bandana scarf, which I've been wearing on my neck or tying onto one of my bags all summer, transitioned nicely into a fun fall hair piece. You may have noticed that I decided to forgo jewelry in both of these looks - whenever I choose lipstick and a hair piece, sometimes I feel jewelry is just too much for me! I like things pretty simple.

This weekend I'm looking forward to mostly staying in, maybe mixing up a fall cocktail, and making healthy pancakes. Hope you all are enjoying the cozy vibes wherever you are!
